Ohio Revised Code requires all laboratories, physicians, healthcare professionals and hospitals to report suspected and confirmed cases of certain communicable diseases to the local health department. The communicable disease nurse at the New Philadelphia City Health Department is responsible for the review and investigation of emerging and reportable infectious diseases within the city of New Philadelphia.
Program Objectives:
- Case Investigation: Gather details of possible source, symptoms, contacts, course and treatment of disease.
- Surveillance: Systematically collect and analyze numbers pertaining to specific diseases.
- Resource Reference: Facilitate access to medical and community resources.
- Education: Provide health and disease information to healthcare professionals and the public.
Coordination with the Tuscarawas County Health Department as well as other county health departments and the Ohio Department of Health is an ongoing and integral component to the successful operation of this program.

To report a communicable disease or any suspected outbreak in the city of New Philadelphia after hours, please call the New Philadelphia Police Department nonemergency number at (330) 343-4488 and let them know that you have an after-hours emergency and need to speak with the Health Department.
